On March 17, 2018 – Canadian Blind Hockey celebrated the CNIB 100 with CNIB British Columbia and a thrilling Blind Hockey game with members of the Vancouver Canucks Alumni Association and the Vancouver Eclipse Blind Hockey team in Abbotsford, British Columbia.
A large crowd of more than 70 people were treated to a back and forth affair that had the two teams tied 5 – 5 at the end of two, before Team Blue wearing the Canucks jerseys pulled away in the 3rd to earn a 9 – 7 victory.
Graham Foxcroft led Blue with four goals while Scott Roberts added four points of his own with two goals and two assists. Wade Sheppard added two more goals and a helper, Brian Cowie scored a single, and Steelhead Stevo Vandermey stood tall for the win. From the Canucks Alumni Steve Kariya and Gary Nyland each added a pair of helpers in the victory.
For Team Yellow Sean Heaslip and Anthony Ciulla each had 5 point nights in defeat by scoring hat-tricks and adding a pair of helpers. Long time CNIB employee and member of the Eclipse Brian Mackie – who had the idea to host the game in honour of CNIB 100 – scored the other goal. Canucks Alumni Moe Lemay and Mark Lofthouse each had an assist as well.
Thank you to the Vancouver Canucks Alumni Association, BC Blind Sports, and CNIB British Columbia for making this afternoon’s Blind Hockey fun possible. Our next CNIB 100 Anniversary Celebration Event will be Saturday, March 30 during the 6th annual 2018 Canadian National Blind Hockey Tournament.
